Assistant Caretaker – Part Time

                                20 hours per week, whole time
Contractual status:
    Permanent – to start as soon as possible

We are looking for a school caretaker who will take pride in how our amazing school looks and functions and will have a good range of experience including general DIY, cleaning and maintenance and will be able to communicate effectively with a range of people including pupils, parents, staff, visitors and contractors.

The role includes but is not limited to:

  • locking/unlocking the buildings and site, ensuring the site is accessible and safe on a daily basis,
  • carrying out daily/weekly/monthly safety checks and actioning as appropriate,
  • carrying out basic maintenance,
  • controlling access and egress of school transport,
  • support with hydro pool maintenance,
  • liaising with contractors,
  • supporting the Site Supervisor to ensure the site is functioning correctly.

The successful applicant will

  • ideally have worked within a school environment previously or have a strong maintenance background.
  • Ideally have experience in a trade or worked in a role involving building maintenance
  • be professional at all times, as well as friendly and enthusiastic.

We are looking to appoint a Parent Governor and two other Governors.  

The Governing Body is responsible for both the conduct of the school and for promoting high standards.  The governing body carries out its role by setting the vision for the school and then ensuring that the school works efficiently and effectively towards achieving its vision.  Governors need not be experts in the field of education but they should have an interest in the school and the welfare of the children and the time and willingness to get involved.

Governors are expected to:

  • Attend termly meetings of the full governing body
  • Sit on a committee and attend meetings which are usually once a term
  • Visit the school formally for monitoring purposes termly
  • Commit to attend training courses, perform additional research as required and take part in monitoring areas within school

In return school will:

  • Provide you with a structured induction
  • Provide access to quality training via the Governor Development Service Training programme
  • Provide you with an experienced governor mentor.
